What Is Joule Rating in Surge Protection?
Joule rating refers to the amount of surge energy a protection device can absorb before it is no longer able to provide effective protection.

For example, a surge protection device with a higher joule rating can usually absorb more surge energy than one with a lower rating, depending on the design and application.

For example, a device may have a high joule rating but a clamping voltage that is not suitable for the equipment being protected. This is why surge protection should always be selected based on the full datasheet, not just the joule rating.
