Low-wattage AC-DC medical grade adapters

Sunpower has announced its new GSM18-25-36 series of 18 W, 25 W and 36 W high efficiency medical grade AC-DC power adapters. These extend the popular GSM40A-60A 40 W and 60 W low wattage series of green medical adapters. Complying with international medical safety regulations including the 2*MOPP Means of Patient Protection level, these models feature an extremely low leakage current of 50 μA or less, a no-load power consumption below 0.1 W and a high efficiency of 88%. The entire series fulfils the stringent demands of patient contact medical applications; it also complies with the latest level V energy-saving regulations such as the European Union’s ErP Step 2 and the USA’s EISA 2007 (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007).

The GSM18-25-36 series features a full range 80-264 VAC input, using a 2-pole IEC320-C8 standard plug suitable for UK mains supplies. Its output voltage options range from 5 to 48 VDC to suit the requirements of different small medical devices; a lock type DC plug is optional. The GSM18-25-36 models are Class ll power units with no Frame Ground, and enclosed by UL 94V-0 plastic cases which effectively protect users from electric shock. These adaptors have also acquired global safety certificates per UL, CUL, TUL, CB, FCC and CE, including the home healthcare medical regulation IEC-EN60601-1-11, ANSI-AAMI ES60601-1-11; this certification strongly guarantees user safety.

The series’ standard functions include short circuit, overload, and over voltage protection and an LED indicator. The units have an operating temperature range of -25°C to +60°C, with cooling by free air convection. Typical applications include medical equipment requiring low leakage current, portable medical equipment, home healthcare units and any electrical systems having a low no-load power consumption requirement.
