Consistent power in extreme conditions with HEP Series

Power supplies are often the first point of failure in outdoor or industrial systems—not due to poor design, but because they were never intended for harsh, real-world conditions. Temperature swings, moisture ingress, vibration and airborne contaminants are all contributing factors that shorten the life of conventional power units, especially in remote or maintenance-limited installations.

The MEAN WELL HEP Series addresses these challenges directly. Designed to operate in the most demanding environments, this range of fully encapsulated, fanless AC-DC power supplies delivers continuous performance from 100W to 2300W. Whether installed on a mountaintop telecom mast or embedded inside vibration-prone machinery, the HEP Series provides reliable power without failure.

MADE FOR HARSH ENVIRONMENTS

Each unit in the HEP Series is built with long-term reliability at its core. A thermally conductive aluminium enclosure forms the outer shell, with internal circuitry fully potted in silicone. This approach eliminates the need for fans and filters while protecting against moisture, dust, salt, and gas ingress. The result is a sealed system that operates quietly and consistently across a broad temperature range, from –55ºC to +70ºC, without the risk of thermal or mechanical fatigue.

Performance isn’t just defined by resilience. With conversion efficiencies reaching up to 96% and stable output under varying load conditions, the HEP Series supports clean, efficient operation across a wide input range. Overvoltage, short circuit, overload and thermal protections are built in as standard, ensuring that system uptime isn't compromised by power instability.

BUILT-IN INTELLIGENCE

Where systems require monitoring and remote configurability, the HEP Series includes models with integrated digital communication interfaces. From 600W and up, select variants offer CANBus, PMBus or Modbus options for live feedback and remote adjustment of output voltage and current. Status signals, temperature alerts and DC OK outputs simplify integration with SCADA or building management systems.

For even greater flexibility, units above 1000W can be connected in parallel using active current sharing. This makes it possible to scale output or design redundant N+1 configurations in critical systems.

In addition to standard power supplies, MEAN WELL also offers battery charging models within the HEP Series. The HEP-600C, HEP-1000C and HEP-2300C include programmable 2- or 3-stage charging profiles suitable for lithium, sealed lead-acid, AGM and gel chemistries. Output parameters can be adjusted via a potentiometer or remote signal, with standby power consumption under 0.5 watts to minimise energy use between cycles.

This makes the HEP charger variants ideal for backup systems, remote solar or hybrid installations, and off-grid infrastructure where robust charging and environmental resistance are equally important.

APPLICATIONS THAT DEMAND CERTAINTY

In addition to standard power supplies, MEAN WELL also offers battery charging models within the HEP Series. The HEP-600C, HEP-1000C and HEP-2300C include programmable 2- or 3-stage charging profiles suitable for lithium, sealed lead-acid, AGM and gel chemistries. Output parameters can be adjusted via a potentiometer or remote signal, with standby power consumption under 0.5 watts to minimise energy use between cycles.

The HEP Series is suited to projects where maintenance access is limited, conditions are unpredictable, and long service life is critical. These units are in active use across a range of sectors, including telecoms, industrial automation, outdoor security infrastructure, renewable energy, and transportation. They support deployments where other power supplies typically require frequent replacement or reinforcement.

Because the design is fully sealed and fanless, there’s no reliance on air movement, no exposed openings, and no need for regular cleaning. The internal potting material provides consistent heat dissipation, regardless of mounting orientation — a feature that reduces thermal stress and extends lifespan even in passive enclosures.

All HEP Series models are certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 and meet industrial EMC standards, including EN55032 Class B for conducted and radiated emissions. Comprehensive datasheets and mechanical drawings are available to support system-level design and integration.

Each unit is backed by MEAN WELL’s six-year manufacturer's warranty. For application advice, technical specification support, or assistance integrating the HEP Series into your project, the team at Sunpower Electronics is here to help.
